Curly Hair Artistry October Tips & Updates

Uncategorized Oct 08, 2025

Good day everyone.

1) Based on the vision of Curly Hair Artistry and all I do to share not just about curly hair but also a healthy lifestyle.
I wanted to share about a Nutritionist I know and that he takes insurance and also works online through At Home Nutrition, LLC.
Ryan Musgrave MS, RDN & LDN has a Masters Degree and is Licensed to work on patients as a Registered Dietitian through zoom - he is already gaining great feedback (yes, he is my son) - so if you would like to connect to improve your wellbeing through food (and more as discussed) you can reach him at [email protected] or 919-578-3999 www.ahnutrition.net

2) We had great success in September at Curl Boutique in Saco Maine with the training for hairstylists to advance their skills through CHA. We will be setting up the next one in 2026 soon and offering dates coming up.

Feedback such as "This is the best training - highly recommended" is always appreciated. I see the impact of the training by following those who took the training through social media and its great to see how new skills, tools, product usage and cutting wavy/curly hair is impacting their community and business.
You NOW have a community of like minded stylists to be with and relate with that is few and far between to help you progress in business AND life.

3) I went to Maine a bit early to go to a bucket list place of Acadia National Park and it is stunning there - I got my butt whooped through the trails that Debbie and Adam (hosts of Curl Boutique and friends of mine) took me on.
(Debbie is fearless on cliffs AND in life - she is a true inspiration - here she is):

4) Amazon has some great deals going on and wanted to recommend a couple things: click on single words to take you to recommended products through my affiliate program (no additional cost to you but supports my business as I seldom have retail in my studio):
Sealer
Whole System
Detox
Filler
Sealer
LHDC (use CHA10 for discount)

5) Back in the day people used to brush their hair and it was making a mess of breakage and other symptoms on dry hair. Over time people stopped brushing their hair dry OR wet.
Over time of people developing tools to sell on social media people have bought all sorts of brushes to work on wet hair with conditioner and also now for styling their hair.
Over time - many (not all) - but many found that with repetition and over time that hair becomes stressed and eventually breaks off at certain stress points that develop on the hair strand resulting in breakage and more 'halo' that pops out. Halo are those shorter pesky strands that float out and about your hair when it is dry.
Cultivate Your Curls teaches how to use YOUR HANDS as a tool for styling your hair. Clients online and in my studio have been using their hands for over 20 years with no issues.
Some clients with hand issues or elderly use a brush - some with a massive amount of hair use a brush - people that do not know what to do or have a bad cut use a brush and this is somewhat new over the past years and it is revealing that SOME (not all) are eventually having breakage.
ALSO - another aspect of brush styling is this process of styling produces a manufactured look to the curls with flat and ribbons (like finger waves) near the scalp (some say they have helmet head), looser strands mid-way and curls at the bottom making for inconsistent curl patterns that make it difficult to 'read' the hair for a proper cut designed for your curls.
For my clients I do not recommend brush styling to get a cut with me.
I ask many people all over the world outside of my circles 'why do you brush style' and most say 1- they do not know what else to do 2 - it is faster 3- it is easier....because they do not know what else to do.
You do what you have to do.
But I believe that ONCE in your lifetime you should learn to style and manage your hair with your hands only....it has worked for THOUSANDS of you with wavy/curly hair - every day - for years.
Do not let the pretty people photos and videos in social media give you FOMO of 'needing' a brush.
Many find out that it takes LONGER to work with at home - and while its pretty to do on a client and try to retail a brush to them - just realize its easier to do this on another person compared to doing in on yourself - you just get a different result when someone else does this on you.

Finally - we are on for a great end of the year and October is a great time to initiate health and wellbeing BEFORE thinking of starting in January for a New Year and New You - you can start NOW with taking control of your own health physically and mentally.

Finish Q4 with peace, patience, love, joy and self-control.

For now,
Scott Musgrave - Founder of Curly Hair Artistry.

PS - While many go for Pumpkin Spice - I go for:

Oysters in Maine with BlueBerry Marionette & homemade hot sauce - best I ever had!
